Preschool Philosophy and Session Times

Preschool Philosophy

Aranda Preschool believes in caring, secure, and respectful relationships
that build confidence and a sense of belonging to the preschool and
broader community. We respect and maintain the rights and dignity of
children, families and the community. We respect the diversity of each child
and their family. We honour the histories, cultures, languages, traditions and
values of each family. We promote a greater understanding of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being.

We believe in a play-based approach to learning, valuing the unique learning
style of each child and celebrating all forms of participation. We provide
experiences and resources that inspire open-ended investigations as they
discover, create and imagine and encourage children to be active
participants in their learning.

We hold a holistic view of the child, and strive to cater to the individual
needs, interests, abilities and backgrounds of all. Educators recognise the
significance of children’s play and interactions and use observations and
reflections to influence planned experiences. The power of the teachable
moment is embraced as children express interest and wonder in their
environment. Educators engage in intentional teaching which is planned,
deliberate, purposeful and thoughtful. Educators promote challenging
interactions that foster high-level thinking skills and draw on different
teaching strategies as the context changes.

We believe that children are innately creative, capable and inquisitive
learners who are developing understandings about themselves, their
community and their world.

Preschool Session Times:

Preschool sessions run five days in a fortnight from 9:00am to 3:00pm. Please ensure your child is collected by 3:00pm to avoid distress by your child if you are late.

There are three classes, two on Monday and Tuesday and one on Thursday and Friday. The Monday/Tuesday classes also attend on Wednesdays of odd numbered weeks and the Thursday/Friday classes attend on Wednesdays of even numbered weeks.

As we have a number of children with severe allergic reactions to certain foods, we ask that you check with your child’s teacher before bringing in special treats such as cakes, to the class.
