Kindergarten - Year 6 Enrolments

The Education Directorate places a limit on the number of students who can be enrolled at a school, this is called the school’s capacity. To ensure that schools are able to operate within their capacity, the Directorate designated Priority Enrolment Areas (PEAs). Priority Enrolment Area maps are available on the ACT Education Directorate website.

The current PEA for Aranda Primary includes the suburb of Aranda and a "shared zone" of Cook.

If you live in Cook, our 'shared zone', you are guaranteed a place for your child in one of the designated schools, but not necessarily the one which you pick as your preferred school. Your enrolment application will be assessed by the Principals of both schools, to determine which school has enough capacity to accept your application.

Aranda Primary School is a Category A School.

Category A Schools are generally not able to accept students from outside their Priority Enrolment Area (PEA) due to significant in-PEA demand, both now and in the near future.

Category A schools will only consider applications from out of area students against the following criteria, in the order of priority indicated. When completing the online enrolment form, you will be asked to provide a reason for your out of area application. Please refer to these criteria:

  1. There are legal considerations, including where a Court Order states that a child or young person must attend a specific school.
  2. There are individual circumstances, based on student wellbeing, which mean a child or young person cannot attend their Priority Enrolment Area school, and must attend the Out of Area school to which they have applied (Where there are reasons why a child cannot attend their Priority Enrolment Area school, but they could attend a different out of area school, the Directorate will help the applicant find an alternative school. Contact the Enrolments Helpline: (02) 6205 5429).
  3. The child lives in the ACT and has a sibling who will be attending the out of area school at the same time

Please refer to the Priority Enrolment Area maps on the ACT Education Directorate website.

Applications for enrolment can only be submitted via an online form provided by the Education Directorate. (Click here to access the enrolment form) If your application is accepted the school will contact you by email.

NSW residents should refer to the Education Directorate website for specific information about enrolling in an ACT Public School.

Preschool Enrolments

In line with Directorate Policy, children who turn four by 30 April each year are able to enrol at preschool. Aranda Preschool is classified as a  high-demand preschool site. This means applications for preschool are prioritised using the following prioritisation criteria (not on a ‘first come, first served’ basis):

  1. Individual circumstances based on student wellbeing.
  2. ACT-resident siblings of students concurrently enrolled in the primary school (i.e: applicants who will be attending the school in the same year as a currently enrolled student).
  3. Children living within the Priority Enrolment Area (PEA) of the primary school, up to the limit of available places.

Where there are not enough places for all children living in the PEA of Aranda Primary School, applications will be allocated by proximity of residential address to the preschool which is measured in a straight line.

A number of preschools are experiencing high demand from their local families. At these high-demand preschools, applicants who do not meet the prioritisation criteria, will be allocated to:
